‘SHAME DISSOLVING’

‘SHAME DISSOLVING’ is a multi-layered story about a harmed natural ecosystem, caused by a climate change event, in 2018, in Patagonia, Argentina. The largest recorded temperature change ever measured within 24 hours occurred there. The impact unfolded rapidly. It took a toll on the glaciars, wildlife, croplands, forests, delta formations, water quality and marine biosphere. Eventually it resulted in an enormous explosion of Noctiluca Scintillans known as Sea Sparkle that becomes radiant by movement. Although one cell is harmless this enormous quantity affected the sea ecosystem severely.

I am concerned about global changes. Previous work already expressed my anxiety by exploring a dialogue between the described event and my emotional state of mind. I didn’t attempt to capture images of the actual process but created a layering of stories, revealing my feelings resulting in an explosion of shame towards the future generations. Eventually this could vanish, transform or dissolve?    

‘SHAME UNDENIABLE’

What happens next? ‘SHAME UNDENIABLE’ is zooming in on the body cells created by this process. It represents them as blown up standalone pieces. Despite the dynamic composition it’s my goal to present this work as a story of what’s happening, both making the viewer sometimes a bit uncomfortable, and inviting them to contribute to this topic.

Art can make powerful changes in an individual. Just one new insight can change someone’s perception. With this work my aim is to raise awareness and ideally inspire to any small form of action.
